Digital skills: Texture – complexity

It is very easy to assume any artefact that looks, reads and sounds simple was quick to produce. Though there are occasions where the design and development is rapid and seems straight forward often there has been a lot of complex stages it has gone through to get to this ‘simple’ point. Designing anything is layered like a cake, there is:

  • the initial concept – a vision of the final product usually a result of researching requirements, the clients preference and audience
  • the construction – deciding on a method and medium to use, the software, the hardware
  • the delivery – how the audience will see the item, where and when
  • the evaluation – often overlooked, does the item work, does it need changing

Design complex layers of different textures, definitely!
